This morning, the Girl - just turned 6 - tells me that 3 times 3 is 6. I explain that 3x3 is actually 9, and why. A split second passed.
“Then 3x4 is 12.”
Yes, yes it is. What is 3x5?
“Let me think... 15.”
We went on to 2x2, 2x3 (at which point she informs me that 3x2 and 2x3 are the same thing), and so on.
Really? She counts addition problems by making dots on her homework, but can multiply in her head???
